This week we cranked through 8 youth ministry questions:

We had a great discussion last Monday answering some of the recent questions and debates that were posted to MinistryQuestions.com. Unfortunately, the service we use to hold the conversations, TalkShoe, was plagued with issues once again, forcing us to switch to Blog Talk Radio for next week’s talk.
Nonetheless, the phone part worked without many hitches, so we were able to discuss a couple topics before our time ran out.

Due to a little miscommunication, the guest for today’s show wasn’t able to make it, so those of us who were on the call decided to go ahead with the topic ourselves. It actually morphed into the topic you see above, which was great. We’ll talk more about it with Todd Perkins when we reschedule him for another time, but will go more with the direction of “communicating the vision to the church and community” since we didn’t discuss that much in last week’s LIVE YM Talk.
Some of the things we talked about:
- What is a vision?
- How does it different from mission/purpose/values/goals/etc.?
- Why is it important?
- How a vision directs a ministry
- And a lot more…

John Mulholland recently separated his youth group into jr. high and sr. high ministries. He joined us to talk about some of the issues that surround splitting the ministries and, together with a group of other youth workers who joined us on the call and in the adjoining chat room, we had a pretty lively discussion. Apparently this is an issue that’s much more controversial than I anticipated, with many different perspectives and opinions.
Some of the things we talked about:
- Reasons to separate jr. and sr. high ministries.
- Reasons to keep the ministries together.
- What separating can unintentionally teach teens about the body of Christ.
- If your ministry should split or stay together.
- And a lot more…
