Dylan, you may be right. I will go back and check it out again. I wrote this soley based on my impressions from listening to the lyrics myself without any background knowledge of what the band’s intentions are. However, I’d make the argument that that’s probably where the majority of music listeners are coming from. We interpret what we hear on the radio and draw conclusions based on it.

The song “Deify” is in regards to how the band believes that the United States seems to have exhalted the president to some new level of power, almost god-like, where he can do not wrong and seems to be able to do whatever he wants to. Why do you think there is the ominous George Bush exerpt at the beginning? The band is not anti-religion or anti-chrisitanity, just listen to their previous album, Believe. With songs like “prayer”, “believe” and “awaken”, I think you should listen a little closer prior to passing judgement. The band makes a great point in the song you detest. Read the chorus again in the proper context, and you’ll have a much better understanding of the point they are trying to convey.
