Our Weekly Freebie Friday: #243

Last year I wrote about 3 things I want my students to know before they graduate. The first item I mentioned was, “An overview understanding of the entire Bible.” Biblical literacy is so important! Much of youth ministry lessons are built around topics and follow a, “What does the Bible have to say about _____” approach. I’m not against those types of lessons, but I definitely think we’ll miss a lot if we don’t simply ask the question, “What does the Bible have to say?” and let it speak for itself.

In that post, I said this:

Biblical literacy is key because you cannot fall in love with someone if you don’t know much about them. But the more you know, the more there is to fall in love with, and the more you fall in love, the more you want to know about that person. Knowing God’s Word is foundational to knowing and loving God.

Formerly there wasn’t a great comprehensive lesson plan out there for studying through the Bible book by book, so I ended up writing a lot of the lessons myself. But now Simply Youth Ministry has a 72-week plan for going through the entire Bible! In fact, it was just released this week, so I’m pretty sure the ink is still drying on some of these PDF downloads for you below.

Simply Youth Ministry gave me the lesson on Genesis one and the creation story for you guys to download absolutely free! It includes an overview of the Genesis series, a student handout, and the lesson plan. Both the Word document is included so you can easily modify the lesson and handout, and the PDF version is included, as well, as enjoy the pretty version.

If you’re not familiar with LIVE Curriculum, it’s a great resource that’s written for small groups. It’s very flexible, easy to use, and is geared for collaboration with your other youth leaders online. Easily share lessons with your other small group leaders, collaborate around them during the week, and use content that’s tweaked specifically for your kids in your ministry. It’s definitely worth checking out and using the free trial run they give you.
