  • I really like this conversation. You cant know someone without spending some time them. I think the concern on the youth pastor side is maybe they will see my weakness in the process and time spent with me. Most youth pastors have experiences where a weakness or mistake being exposed has become a stick used to run them off. If churches are looking for bulletproof professionals they can deceive themselves easier with a shorter less relational approach. I think the same holds true for the youth pastor, gives them more time to get to know the church he is committing to.

    I also agree with looking internally first, who can we train/mentor into this position. Someone you have history with and has a passion for this ministry. Obviously there can be professional shortcomings with this type of situation but if the person is open to training why wouldn't you bring up your own?
