This past October I wrote a two-part blog series for you all explaining the effectiveness of using video to communicate with teens and an actual “how to” post of making videos a reality for your group. It’s been fun to see many of you pick up on the idea of using video to communicate more with your groups both at church and online throughout the week.
Last week I watched some tutorial videos on YouTube about how to use a program on my Mac called LiveType (included for free with my purchase of Final Cut Express). Although the program looked a bit intimidating at first, it is really quite simple to use. Below is my very first LiveType video and I made it for all of you! Feel free to download and use this generic “Youth Group News” video introduction with any youth group videos you make.

Tim,
You’re killing us man! That video looks awesome, but I can’t do much with it in “mac” format. Will Final Cut allow you to export it as MPEG?
1. You can’t import it into Windows Movie Maker
2. I have not found a way to use Quicktime Movies in EasyWorship
3. I Don’t have the Budget for Adobe Premiere Pro.
Any other Ideas??
Ahhh the greatness of being in a PC world….
Thanks
Brent

@Brent: I actually thought about that when I posted it, but figured it probably wouldn’t be a big deal since QuickTime is definitely a Windows format as much as it is a Mac format. It’s just that Windows Movie Maker and EasyWorship apparently don’t want to work nice with what is the standard video format for movies today. You can for free from Apple’s website.
I tried exporting it to a WMV for you, but the audio wasn’t in sync, so here it is as a Divx/avi format. Hopefully this will work for ya, or be easy to convert to something that will.
Download it in Divx/AVI format

@Tim – I use a movie making software for PC called Magix Movie. I downloaded the trial version before purchasing it. Movie Edit Pro 14 costs about $45.00 and works with all formats and HD. Here is a link: http://www.magix.com/us/movie-edit-pro/

Brent,
I have been messing around with video with my youthgroup for a little while now. When I started I got a free download of a video editing software called WAX and between that and movie maker I was able to do pretty much everything I needed to including transition effects, picture on picture effects, and even croma key (green screening).
You can find it on http://www.download.com and its free!!!
you can also get a video converter for free from the same sight (I use the free version of prism all the time) and it will convert the video you have to any format you need it to be. (wmv, avi, mpeg or whatever)
anyway when your budget will allow it you may want to consider getting adobe premiere pro (as long as you have a lot of ram) it works great for me.
Good Luck
