What happens to 3 out of 4 girls after leafing through a fashion mag for 3 minutes?

Topic / Videos

I saw this video and thought it was worth passing along for the first part of the video. The second part seems to go in a weird direction by equating the lack of women in leadership roles to a lack of ambition that the media creates by causing girls to have a low self-esteem. Not quite sure I’d quite jump to that same conclusion about women in leadership based on media consumption, but it’s interesting nonetheless.

What do you think? Is there a correlation between media, low self-esteems, and leadership by women?

  • I think that this video is true. I believe that media and fashion magazines can affect the self esteem of our teenage girls if they are not placing their trust and identity in their creator, God. This video though really is challenging and can be convicting for teenage girls. Sharing it on my blog tomorrow.

    Thanks for sharing the resource.

    • So you think there’s some truth to the leadership stats as influenced by the media? While that may be part of it, I’m inclined to think there are other factors involved. Like, what about all the stay-at-home moms who aren’t considered “leaders” but are working and leading way better than the dads?

  • May our Girls be nurtured in the truth that they are made in the image of God and to find and hold their identity in Christ. “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” It is my hope and prayer through the process of sanctification that God will surround his little children with Godly women, who will help rescue them from any false image or identity that is not fit for a daughter of the King of Kings. Maybe we will see more news stories like the “ 8th Grader Petitions Seventeen Magazine to Feature Un-airbrushed Photos” (We have highlighted many news reports on teens and self image on our website )
